Refers to all natural gas initially present in Petroleum Reservoir before the anthropogenic invasion.

The volumetric value of GIIP in NTP conditions is given by STGIIP.

The changes in volume and structure of GIP over time can be caused by production from a given petroleum reservoir or by hydrocarbons migration caused by production from the offset hydrodynamically connected petroleum reservoirs.

For the initial volume and distribution of natural gas after the anthropogenic invasion refer to Gas In Place (GIP).
