Ratio of fluid volume at subsurface conditions  $//<![CDATA[ \begin{array}{l}V_{\rm sub}\end{array} //]]>$ to fluid volume at reference conditions $//<![CDATA[ \begin{array}{l}V_{\rm ref}\end{array} //]]>$:

where  $//<![CDATA[ \begin{array}{l}\rho_{\rm ref}\end{array} //]]>$ is density at reference conditions and  $//<![CDATA[ \begin{array}{l}\rho_{\rm sub}\end{array} //]]>$ is density at subsurface conditions.

The reference conditions may refer to standard conditions or to separator conditions.

The FVF values are usually used to recalculate the fluid volumes measured at surface to the fluid volumes which are produced from or injected to subsurface reservoir.
