Essential part of PVT analysis responsible for predicting the dynamic fluid properties at various temperature and pressure based on the laboratory tests of available fluid samples.

The fluids are assumed to be multi-component and multi-phase and stay in thermal and hydrodynamic equilibrium.

Below is the list of the most popular PVT models:

AbbreviationDescriptionComponents
GASDry GasGas
BOBlack OilWater, oil wth saturated gas, gas
MBOModified Black Oil ( also called Volatile Oil )Water, oil with saturated gas, gas with oil vapour
EOSEquation of State ( also called Compositional )Water, alkanes components, minor inclusions

Objectives

  • Assessing the fluid properties from laboratory data

  • Building a fluid model for a user-defined range of temeratures, pressures and fluid composition:

    • density

    • compressibility

    • formation volume factor

    • viscosity

    • specific heat capacity at constant pressure

    • thermal conductivity

    • cross-phase exchange coefficients
