Computing systems based on
- a collection of units called artificial neurons, represented by processing function (also called activation function)
and
- connected by links called synapses weights, represented by real numbers (see Fig. 1)

The ANN concept is inspired by and in some elements is mimicking the behaviour of the biological neurons connected by synapses .
