Measure of the fluid density of a substance with specific gravity $\begin{array}{l}SG\end{array}$ at reference (usually STP) conditions:

(1)	$\begin{array}{l}\displaystyle \gamma_{API} \, [{\rm ^\circ API}] = \frac{141.5}{\rm SG} - 131.5\end{array}$

This is a popular density unit for crude oil and gas condensate.
