There are three major types of Pipelines:

Gathering Pipeline
Distribution PipelineTransportation PipelineGroup of smaller interconnected pipelines forming complex networks with the purpose of bringing crude oil or natural gas from several nearby wells to a treatment plant or processing facilityComposed of several interconnected pipelines with small diameters, used to take the products to the final consumer.
A complex network of interconnected Pipeline Components collecting the fluids from many feeding terminals and transporting fluids to the centralized consuming terminal.
Distribution PipelineA complex network of interconnected Pipeline components distributing the  fluids to the consuming terminals.
Transportation PipelineA linear chain of connected pipes providing a long distance transportation of liquids and gases
