It forms a separate Subsurface E&P Discipline but in fact its studies are shared between two different workflows: Petroleum Geology and Petrophysics

Petroleum Geology uses Rock Geomechanics to model the rock stress and fractures.

Petrophysics uses Rock Geomechanics to model the Geomechanical Rock Properties
